Grapplers show determination

Despite missing four wrestlers from their starting lineup, the Wildcats earned 123 points to place 13th out of 44 teams at the Oakland County Tournament held Friday and Saturday.
Head Coach Paul McDevitt said although the team was hoping to place somewhere in the top ten, he’s not at all disappointed with how the Cats ended the tournament.
Team captain senior Kyle Oliver (215) took second place in the individual competitions, while senior starter Kyle Nieporte (152) earned fourth place. Sophomore lightweight Mike Upshur (103) took fifth overall, and Ken Mueller (189) finished seventh.
Four of the absent wrestlers were starters in the middle weight class.
‘Some of our guys are out of the lineup with injuries,? McDevitt said. ‘But we hope to get them back after the holidays.?
The team is missing starters junior Mike May (135) and senior Mat Duncan (140) as well as freshmen Kyle Brammer (125) and Zac Line (160).
‘We expect to have most of them back and put the back together over the holidays,? McDevitt said. He is hopeful to place in the top ten in the upcoming tournament.
The grapplers will host the Oxford Invitational at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30
