Help local children, join BGYA

Looking to make a difference in the lives of children?
Brandon Groveland Youth Assistance needs you.
The organization that helps local children and families through programs including Mentors Plus, STARS, Adopt-a-Camper, and family education, is looking for volunteers of all ages.
‘We can’t run without volunteers,? said BGYA Caseworker Phyllis McCaffrey.
In the past year, BGYA has expanded, matching six children to adult mentors and watching STARS, a new after-school tutoring program, grow to include all three elementary schools, as well as Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School.
BGYA has about five girls and six boys on a waiting list for a mentor and also needs tutors for STARS.
Volunteers are also needed to work on and supervise youth in community projects, participate in fundraisers, coordinate family education programs, serve on a committee to organize and create new programs, and help with mailings, summer camp and youth recognition.
‘Volunteers can work as little as one hour a month, to an hour a week or more,? McCaffrey said. ‘There is a lot going on and we’re trying to get the school year off to a good start.?
