Former Oxford High School Head Boys? Varsity Basketball Head Coach Stephan Henning has once again handed in a letter of resignation.
This time it was for his middle school teaching job.
Henning gave it to OMS Principal Dacia Beazley on Jan. 4, but agreed to finish out the semester, which comes to an end this Friday (Jan. 15). Henning told this reporter via text message that he landed a job with the Rochester school district, which will also give him ‘other coaching opportunities.?
When asked for a formal interview as to why he was leaving, he declined to comment.
‘I’m not giving any more interviews. I’m sorry,? Henning said. ‘Nothing against you, (I’m) just done.?
Henning resigned as basketball coach for the 2015-16 season in early December after being told by the district that if he didn’t resign, a coaching contract would not be extended to him for the 2015-16 season.
Henning’s resignation from coaching revolved around a former assistant coach who he had hired for the 2013-14 season and was later told by school officials that there were ‘serious allegations,? against him and he had to let him go near the end of the season.
According to school officials, Henning was told multiple times not to let the former assistant coach on school property or allow him to be around the students.
However, the former assistant coach, Julian Tyler, was seen on security camera footage hanging out with players at a team practice and at a team lock-in, prior to the start of this season.
The district could not divulge what they found in Tyler’s background, which led to his firing, due to legal reasons.
However, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reports reveal Tyler had several run-ins with the law related to retail fraud, larceny, possession of marijuana, trespassing, driving with a suspended license and probation violations.
When asked if he had any thoughts regarding Henning’s resignation, Oxford Superintendent Tim Throne declined to comment.
‘I really don’t have anything to say about it,? Throne said.
Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Nancy Latowski told this reporter Henning’s resignation was ‘his personal decision.?
‘The district did not influence his decision in any way,? she added.
