Hunt is on for village manager

Ortonville-The search is underway.
About ten applications for the position of village manager have been received since the opening was posted on the Michigan Municipal League website on April 29.
Sue Bess, village council president, said applicants are from as far away as Wisconsin, Ohio and the Upper Peninsula. Several local people have also applied to be village manager, a position which Paul Zelenak will leave on May 16 to be city manager of Bloomfield Hills.
‘We’ve had several very good applications and they’re still coming in,? said Bess, who plans to leave the posting on the MML website until May 20. ‘We are going to continue to accept applications and will probably begin interviews the week of May 23.?
Bess expected ‘a lot? of applications. When Zelenak was hired in October 2001, the village had received 30 applications, although not all of those applicants were interviewed. Bess said that of the ten current applicants she is interested in four, but the hiring process will involve the entire village council and all employees.
‘We will work together on hiring our new manager,? Bess said, adding that they are looking for a dynamic personality who has diverse qualifications? a hands-on person who could be expected to shovel snow and handle union negotiations.
‘We’ll probably have someone in place by the middle of June,? she said.
