Icers chill Dragons, devoured by Wolves

Oxford Wildcat icers strengthened their record after defeating Lake Orion in a 2-0 battle on Jan. 12 at the Onyx Ice Arena in Rochester.
‘This was an intense atmosphere with the Rochester Onyx nearly sold out. Oxford penalty kill and goal-tending were (the) keys to the victory,? said Hockey Head Coach Dave Hague. ‘In addition, we really stuck to our system that night and played a highly competitive, disciplined game.?
Connor Novack and Austin Kurkowski scored the goals while, goalie Justin Gizinski kept the net clean.
While the boys celebrated their win, it wasn’t enough to keep momentum against the Wolves of Clarkston during the Jan. 17 game.
The Wildcats took the lead after Jimmy Wallington put one in the net in the first with assists from Cody Wright and Stephan Fritz. Joey Bonino scored a second goal with an assist from Wallington. The Wildcats headed into the third period evenly matched with the teams tied at two points a piece, but couldn’t hold it together for the win.
‘Oxford had a couple early turnovers and Clarkston capitalized in the third period, scoring four goals in total,? Hague said.
The boy’s next game will be Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. against Royal Oak at John Lindell Ice Arena.
