Island in the Sun’for tanning choices

Brandon Twp.- Summer is the time for tans, but you don’t have to bake in blistering temperatures to get brown.
At Island in the Sun, 1591 S. Ortonville Road, new owner Kayla Peck offers spray tanning or clients can achieve nice even skin tones by using one of seven tanning beds with four levels for beginning to experienced tanners.
Peck, a 2008 Brandon High School graduate, took ownership of Island in the Sun on June 20. She will host a grand opening celebration July 28-29.
‘I love this community and I was looking for something new,? said Peck. ‘It’s been a wild ride, I never thought I’d own my own business at 21.?
Clients can expect very friendly employees at Island in the Sun, as well as a newly remodeled, very clean salon, with lower prices on lotions and competitive pricing on tanning packages. The salon offers something brand new, too? spray tanning done by Peck personally, not by machine.
‘Spray-on machines turn you orange? it’s too much,? she noted. ‘I have done quite a few spray-ons myself with no complaints. People love them. It’s five to ten minutes of your time and it looks like you’ve been tanning for two or three weeks.?
Peck uses Norvell spray at a cost of $25 per treatment. The color stays on for five to seven days, depending on the frequency of swimming and/or showering.
Tanning beds remain popular and during the grand opening, customers will receive $10 off unlimited tanning for a month, or $5 off unlimited tanning for two weeks. Walk-ins are also welcome and will receive $1 off each visit on July 28-29.
‘I love tanning and I love being here,? said Peck, who is looking for a nail technician to work at Island in the Sun, and also has space at the front of the business available for lease. ‘I think it’s very relaxing to have 10-20 minutes here tanning, and in 10 minutes here, you can achieve what would take you three or four hours to achieve outside. Plus, it’s cooler in here.?
Island in the Sun, 1591 S. Ortonville Road, is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Sunday. 248-627-2173.
