‘Junk in the Trunk’ sale Sat.

You’ve likely heard the old adage “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

The Addison Township Public Library is offering local community members a chance to buy and sell their very own ‘treasures’ at its first “Junk in the Trunk” sale, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside of the library at 1400 Rochester Rd. in Leonard.

This community garage sale will allow local residents access to a high-traffic spot to sell items of their choosing, according to Addison Library Director Jaema Berman.

“A lot of people (in Addison Township) live on back roads and they’ve often asked us if we could have a community garage sale, where everyone could come and have a garage sale where people would be driving by,” said Berman. “Our library is the perfect location because we have high visibility. They can fill up their car and sell right there at the space all day or they can bring tables or a tent. It’s going to be completely up to them how they would like to manage it but it’s a great opportunity for them to get together and have fun, as well as clean out our closets.”

Local residents are encouraged to sell new and used items ranging from household items and crafts to home decor and more.

According to Berman, the event offers more to residents than a little extra cash in their pocket.

“I think the most important thing about this event is that it brings people together. Neighbors get to meet neighbors. It gives us a chance to feel good about our community and get to know each other even better and to learn more about what the library has to offer the community,” said Berman.

Those who register will be assigned a spot within the parking lot outside of the library to set up shop. The cost to reserve a parking spot is $10 per spot. To register, call the library at (248) 628-7180.

All proceeds will benefit the Addison Township Library’s new building fund.

For those unable to participate, who would like to donate, tax-deductible donations may be made to the library through its website, addisontwp.michlibrary.org.
