Despite their best efforts, the Lady Cats basketball team dropped a match against the West Bloomfield Lakers on the road on Jan. 24. Oxford lost 63-53.
The first half went back-and-forth, ending 27-26 in the Lakers’ favor.
Sophomore guard Makenzie Methner, junior forward Aleah Dymond and sophomore guard Emma Morris kept Oxford competitive throughout the half and shot well from behind the arch.
The Lady Cats also went seven for eight from the free-throw line in the first half.
Though Oxford was down in the third quarter by 21 points at one time, they came back and narrowed the Lakers’ lead to just nine points.
But in the fourth quarter, the team’s efforts just weren’t enough.
According to Head Coach Rachel Bryer, West Bloomfield offensive players “caught fire” in the fourth quarter and held onto the lead to win the game.
The Lady Cats are now 6-4 overall. Oxford will play again when it takes on its arch rivals Lake Orion at home on Jan. 31.
