Putting another check in the win column, Oxford’s girls basketball team pulled off a close 39-35 win at home on Jan. 29 against the Troy Colts.
Senior guard Ashley Hershman got the Wildcats started in the first half with two 3-pointers. Senior forward HaLaya Cato also put up a number of rebounds in the first half, getting 10 points on the board.
While her teammates scored, sophomore guard Makenzie Methner held down the fort once again and put a great deal of pressure on the Colts in the first two quarters.
Head Coach Rachel Bryer said Oxford entered the game’s second half as a renewed team and was able to take advantage of the mistakes made and defensive gaps from Troy.
Cato and Methner carried the team’s scoring efforts and kept Oxford ahead by enough to seal a close win by the game’s end.
The Lady Cats are now 6-4 overall. Due to weather, the team’s match against Lake Orion was cancelled on Jan. 31. The ladies will be back at it on Feb. 7 when they host Farmington.
