Moving into the second half of their season, the Lady Cats basketball team picked up two wins last week.
On Jan. 15, Oxford overcame Rochester Adams in a 49-40 game in Wildcat country.
Rochester Adams took control early on in the back-and-forth game, but senior forward HaLaya Cato came back and hit five rebounds, giving the team some momentum in the second quarter.
Maintaining a slight lead throughout the game’s second half, the ladies’ defensive efforts were what made the game. Sophomore guard Makenzie Methner played what Head Coach Rachel Bryer called “havoc”-causing for the Rochester Adams squad. Methner also took six points throughout the night.
Cato led her team in the victory with 25 points and 13 rebounds. She was followed by Methner’s six and senior guard Ashley Hershman’s.
Later in the week, the ladies also defeated Troy Athens away in a close 46-44 match.
The team is now 6-3 overall. The ladies will take the court next when they travel to West Bloomfield on Jan. 24.
