All season long, Oxford’s varsity football team lived by the motto “All in.”
Now, it’s all over.
On Friday, the Wildcats lost the district championship to Lapeer and were knocked out of the playoffs. The Lightning beat Oxford 35-10. Oxford did all of its scoring in the second quarter.
Kicker Samuel McMaken booted a 27-yard field goal.
That was followed by quarterback Drew Carpenter’s 29-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Miller.
Lapeer’s defense shut down Oxford’s running game as the Wildcats rushed for 66 yards in four quarters.
Trent Myre led the Wildcats in rushing with 31 yards on 10 carries.
Carpenter racked up 110 yards in passing. He completed five of his 18 passing attempts.
Marcus Hufnagel led the Wildcats in receiving with two catches for 60 yards.
Defensively, Thomas Wandrie led Oxford with four solo tackles and nine assists.
Oxford’s Joseph Vackaro had four solo tackles and six assists while Austin Schlicht had five solo tackles and one assist.
The Wildcats finished the 2018 season 8-3 overall and 4-2 in league play.
