Brandon Twp.- Township officals say Sterling Heights resident John Sloan is costing Brandon residents money with a teasing attempt to finish a township home.
After taking nearly four years to complete building a house on Legault Boulevard, the township has made repeated court appearances to impel Sloan to finish the construction.
Currently Brandon Township’s attorney is preparing to order Sloan back before the judge and explain why he has violated a six week old order to finish construction.
‘Our attorney will advise him that he must go before the judge to explain himself,? said Tim Palulian, Brandon Township building department director.
‘Recently he started shingling the roof, but hasn’t finished.?
‘There are a lot of things still not done,? Palulian said, adding that Sloan installed a few windows, but not all of them.
After nearly fours years of excuses and extensions from Sloan, in April the township was granted permission to tear the unmanorly heap down because Sloan refused to complete it within the time allowed by the judge.
Sloan, however, immediately restarted work on the house so the township allowed him additional time to finish.
Again the work stopped and the township finally hired a crew to tear the building down.
Delaying destruction, physical threats from the property owner forced the contractors to call off the tear-down until the township could obtain a secure work sight.
In June over township objections, the judge awarded Sloan another six week stay to finish the outer shell of the house.
‘Judge Kuhn was visibly put out with him,’said Palulian.
‘But over our objections he gave the property owner another six weeks.?
In front of Sloan, the judge assured Palulian that when the six weeks were up the township is free to do whatever needed to be done to clear the half-built structure from the property.
The most current six week extension expired the end of July and consistent with his three year pattern, Sloan began construction again.
‘He is in clear violation of the ordinances,? Palulian said, who stated Sloan has not pulled allowances for the window installation, and other violations.
Palulian said in a previous interview that because of his extreme behavior the township would communicate solely with Sloan’s attorney and if he has none, the township attorney will then hold him in contempt of court.
