Leo Charles Redd

Leo Charles Redd, age 83, a lifetime resident of Romeo and Ray Township, passed away, Friday, June 2, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born May 26, 1934 the son of Charles and Nellie (McCain) Redd in Romeo.

At age 15, he kept the stove going around the clock for the country school he attended. He fed and cleaned up after mini horses after school that were owned by his teacher, Miss Flannery. In grade 7, he started going to Romeo School and completed the 10th grade. He worked as a Coordinating Supervisor for the Ford Motor Company at the Sterling Stamping Plant in Sterling Heights.

At age 18, Leo started working at Ford was laid off three years later. He became a part-time Sheriff with Clyde Hotchkiss for about a month and was later called back to his job at Ford Motor Company where he retired in 2000. In 1956, he met Beverly Kage and they married on June 6, 1959. They had three girls and divorced. He then met his late-wife, Gloria, at Pete’s Auction House and they married in Mount Clemens. He and Gloria enjoyed dancing to country music after the auction. Together, they owned Candified Miniature Horses and were members of Blue Water Miniature Horse Club. They traveled to horse shows all over the country (Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc.)

Leo’s hobbies also included auctions, antique dealing, and garage sales. He was a collector of all things and loved a good buy. He believed that one man’s trash was another man’s treasure. He also liked to travel and camp.

Leo was a generous man, he helped countless people and organizations in various ways. During his life he donated to the United Way and to St. Labre Indian School in support of providing education, care and outreach to Native American kids. The Walpole First Nation made Leo an honorary member. They loved him as many did and still do. The essence of Leo will continue on.

Leo is survived by his children Kimberly (Paul) Dunn of Oxford, Kary (Bozadar) Milenkovski of Sterling Heights, Tanis (Richard) Harris of Oxford and Shawn Redd of Lapeer, grandchildren; Brianne (Justin) Martin of New Haven, Erin (Karl) Frank of Memphis, Devin Lemon of Battle Creek, Jason (Joey Wierbicki) Milenkovski of Macomb, Danielle (Richard) Marciniak of Macomb and Adam Milinkovski of Sterling Heights, and great-grandchildren; Jacob Martin, Joshua Martin, Riley Martin, Kyler Lemon, Karly Lemon, Klarissa Lemon, Casey Frank and Jaxon Marciniak. He is also survived by his brother Ron (Joan DeGroff) of Romeo, his sister-in-law Betty Wall of Romeo and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Nellie Redd, his wife Gloria Redd, his siblings; Everett, Don, Lawrence, Bill, Bob, May and Arlene and grandson-in-law Patrick Lemon.

The Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 1:30pm at Resurrection Cemetery (18201 Clinton River Rd.-Clinton Twp., Michigan 48038.)
