Library joins MichiCard

Brandon Twp.- Library cardholders here will have the option of checking out materials from more than 170 libraries across the state beginning May 1.
The library board voted to join the MichiCard program during their March 23 meeting.
‘I think it’s a wonderful step the board has taken to give Brandon residents access to materials across the state,? said Library Director Paula Gauthier. ‘It’s great, because if they are on vacation and have a cottage at Mackinac, for example, they can check materials out.?
Currently, the library participates in the Library Network Cooperative, allowing reciprocal borrowing with any of the libraries in that co-op. However, most libraries in the LNC are in Oakland, Wayne and Livingston counties. The MichiCard program expands the ability of residents to go to libraries outside of this area.
To participate, Brandon Library cardholders simply request a MichiCard sticker be placed on their library card and they are then able to present their card at other participating libraries to check out materials according to that library’s guidelines.
‘Some limit circulation items to print materials, and some do not,? said Gauthier.
Library materials should be returned to the library from which they were borrowed. Brandon Township Library is limiting the number of dvd or audiobooks to three of each items for non-residents.
Nearby libraries that participate in MichiCard include Holly, Genesee District, Lapeer District, and Flint Public.
