Oxford residents are invited to stroll around Powell Lake Township Park and share viewpoints on the latest literature during the library’s “Book Walk” program on Sept. 7, Oct. 4, and Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m.
Sandy Gilmore, Oxford Public Library’s head of adult services, said it was library patrons that helped spark this idea.
“We have a lot of patrons who are interested in talking about what to read and looking for reader’s (advice) of what’s new in mystery or what’s coming up from my favorite author, so we do spend a lot of time talking to people about just such a thing,” Gilmore said.
“We thought it might be fun to actually get a group of people that are interested in that to come together and to use the park. It’s right next to the library. It gets people out walking and enjoying nature.”
The event is meant to give book-lovers an active approach to sharing what they have enjoyed reading, along with learning about new books to peruse.
“We want everybody to join in. It’s a group effort. It’s talking about what you love to read and sharing ideas,” Gilmore added.
With three walks scheduled so far, Gilmore said the staff of the adult service program hopes to make this an ongoing program.
“So far, we’ve had some nice feedback about it,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of people say, ‘That’s a really interesting idea.’ I’m excited about it.”
The event is for adults only and pets will not be permitted.
