The Lake Orion Baptist School Lions went on the road last week, traveling first to Sterling Christian School in Troy, where they fought a tough battle losing to the host Crusaders 39-37.
Trailing by two points with just seconds left, guard Ben Cuyler went to the free throw line, where he made the first, but missed the second.
Guard Zach Halleck was there for the rebound and put a shot up all in one motion, but it wouldn’t go.
From there, the Crusaders were fouled and converted one of two free throws with just three seconds to go. The Lions, needing to go the length of the floor couldn’t convert.
Lions? center Matt Dobis scored 12 points and added 16 rebounds to lead all scorers. Forward Erick Dewar added a double-double of his own with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Cuyler added 10 points as well.
On Jan 12, the Lions had a rematch with the Springfield Christian Eagles, this time in Clarkston for the Eagles? homecomming.
Though they trailed most of the night, the Lions pulled out a victory in the closing seconds at the free throw line, where Dobis hit five-of-six attempts in the final moments for a 45-43 win.
Dobis had his sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 17 rebounds. Dewar added eight points and eight rebounds, and Halleck hit some crucial buckets down the stretch to finish with eight points as well.
The Lions held a significant 41-24 edge on the glass. They improved to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the FBAC
The team will host Waterford Christian in their return home on Friday.
