The Oxford Lions Club will be conducting its annual White Cane fund-raiser May 3-5
Club members will be out from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, they will be on the street corners from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We will be at the four corners in downtown Oxford (Burdick and M-24). We also will be (on) the west side of Drahner and M-24,” said Lions Club President Ron Wood. “If we have enough volunteers, we’ll add Seymour Lake Rd. and Baldwin (Road).”
“The funds that we raise primarily go towards assisting the visually and hearing impaired,” Wood explained. “We assist with eyeglasses and hearing aids in the Oxford community. We also support Leader Dogs for the Blind, Bear Lake summer camp for the blind, the District 11-A2 Hearing Aid Program, District 11-A2 Project Kidsight (vision screening for children) . . . Some of the proceeds (also) go toward (funding) two $1,000 scholarships for Oxford area graduating seniors.”
