Police were investigating a death Wednesday after a man ran into traffic on southbound I-75 near the Holcomb overpass, between Dixie Highway and M-15 in Independence Township.
The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was later identified as Richard Marshall, 54, of Waterford.
A body lay covered on the shoulder and traffic was down to one lane for several hours as Michigan State Police, who have jurisdiction over I-75, took photographs and investigated the scene.
According to a statement issued by the MSP, preliminary investigation based on witness statements revealed that Marshall parked his pickup truck along the shoulder of southbound I-75, exited the vehicle and squatted in front of the truck before jumping into the path of an oncoming minivan.
The man was thrown ‘several feet? by the impact, and died at the scene.
Units from the Independence Township Fire Department, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Independence Township substation and Clarkston police also assisted at the scene.
