Michael LeRoy Rider passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Oct. 14, 2018. He was 70.

Born on June 7, 1948, Mike was a lifelong resident of Oxford and was a well-loved and respected person in the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Odeta Rider, his mother-in-law Alice Nicholson, and his son James Rider.

Michael is survived by his wife of almost 50 years Darlene Rider; children John Rider, and Jylnelle (William) Fearson; and grandchildren Ethan Perkins, Michael Rider, Anthony Rider, Marshall Rider and Jacob Fearson.

Michael retired from the Village of Oxford Department of Public Works after 25 years of dedicated work.

Mike was an active member in the community and enjoyed helping anyone in need, whether it was home repairs or broken cars. If it was broken,  he would fix it or at least try to. Mike enjoyed being outside, was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion, enjoyed bowling, his dart league, playing golf, softball and fishing.

The family will be having a private memorial for Michael. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family asks that donations be made in Michael’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements for cremation was entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors in Oxford.
