Miracle boxes on the way

About 50 volunteers packed more than 200 ‘Miracle? boxes on Oct. 9 at Wojo’s Greenhouse to send to U.S. troops serving overseas.
The boxes contained a variety of items including socks, breakfast items, beef jerky, drinks, ‘pocket foods? and a ‘whole lot of love,? said Louise Downs, a Hadley Township resident known as the ‘Desert Angel.?
The packages, which also contained letters and drawings from children in the Brandon schools, will be sent to soldiers serving in Afghanistan, including Pfc. Joe Miracle’s unit. Miracle, a 2003 Brandon High School graduate, died July 5 from wounds sustained from hostile enemy fire in Afghanistan. Boxes will also be sent to soldiers in Iraq, including the unit of Pvt. Byron Fouty of Waterford, who has been missing since May 12, when his patrol was attacked by enemy forces.
Sherry and Dave Regiani from Dr. Regiani’s dental office in Ortonville donated the postage to mail 200 boxes and challenge other businesses and individuals to help with the remainder.
The next packing party is planned for 12-4 p.m., Nov. 3, at the Old Town Hall in Ortonville. For more information on how to help, call Louise Downs at (248) 736-6403 or email wezziey@yahoo.com.
