Brandon Twp.- An 11-year-old missing boy who prompted a search by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office on May 14 that included 10 deputies from both Brandon and Independence townships, as well as alcohol enforcement, K-9, and aviation units, was found asleep under a deck May 14.
According to police reports, the boy’s mother contacted police at 9:13 p.m., stating that her son had been missing since 4:45 p.m. The woman said he was last seen at a friend’s house in the 900 block of Glass Road.
Deputies searched the boy’s home in the 1100 block of Granger Road with negative results, then went to the Glass Road home and spoke with the homeowner, who said the boy’s brothers had come looking for him. When he saw the boy a short time later, he told him his brothers were trying to find him. The last time he saw the child, he was walking down his driveway.
OCSO Sgt. Pete Burkett requested the additional units, including a helicopter to search the area and a K-9 unit that he said never got a good scent at the Glass Road home because the scene was already contaminated with multiple tracks.
At 11:05 p.m., the sleeping boy was located under the deck of the Glass Road home and turned over to his mother.
‘We’re glad he was found alive and safe,? said Burkett. ‘We hadn’t gotten any calls for trouble about him, he’s a good kid.?
The 11-year-old was the third missing child of the week in the township. Burkett said a two-year-old boy missing from a Cedar Street home was found with a neighbor who had taken the child shopping. The mother, who was doing chores while the child was outside playing never heard the neighbor say she was taking the boy.
A 17-year-old who never showed up for school Tuesday and whose mother hadn’t seen him since 9 p.m. Monday night, was located at a friend’s house.
