Adding resources to the ongoing Oxford Virtual Academy expansion, furniture is on its way to the new facility for staff and students to use.
The furniture and a fire alarm system were previously discussed at the board of education’s Feb. 26 meeting, and was unanimously approved 7-0 on March 13.
The fire alarm system, which costs $27,141.00, will connect OVA’s new office space at 162 S. Washington and will be programmed to go off even if one of the nearby businesses catches fire. Because the location will be in the Oxford Marketplace shopping center, the district wanted to make sure students and staff would be alerted to evacuate if a nearby business, especially one of the restaurants, were to catch fire.
The furniture for the space, which includes office furniture and furniture for student rooms, will cost $90,719.18.
Sam Barna, the district’s assistant superintendent of business operations, also informed the board of the project’s third phase, which will account for technology costs. Overall, the project is expected to cost $474,608.00.
The board of education is scheduled to meet again on March 26 at Daniel Axford Elementary. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m.
