The old Depot Park bridge, worn out by years of travelers crossing the Clinton River in Clarkston’s Depot Park, is history.
Last week, workers from Clarkston DPW and contractors removed the bridge to make way for a new structure, which will be installed this week.
Clarkston residents Bart and Diane Clark donated $80,000 for new bridge. The Clarks said they were looking for a project in town in honor of Bart’s brother Jeff, who planned to move to Clarkston from California but passed away before he could make the move.
The bridge, crossing a stream of the Clinton River at the south end of the park, was at the center of controversy since late 2013, after a citizen insisted the bridge was unsafe.
