New radar cart ready for use in Addison Township

Speeders Beware! Addison Township Substation Commander Sergeant Pete Burkett is now well equipped and looking to find you.
Recently, the Addison Township Board of Trustees approved renting a “Smart Cart,” or a speed-detecting, solar powered radar cart. These carts are placed at the side of the road and can detect the speed of any vehicle traveling either towards or away from the front portion of the sign.
“This is a very effective method of control,” said Burkett “It draws people’s attention to what speed they are actually going. It’s used for putting on the side of the road where we have problems with speeders, and we will have traffic enforcement targeting where the cart is stationed.”
In order to begin placing the cart in different locations around the township, Burkett is asking for assistance from residents – please call the substation at 248-628-3600 or contact a township official at 248-628-3177 to report a problem with speeding in a specific area. Burkett said he will be prioritizing the use of the cart, but hopes to hit all areas reported for at least a day or two.
“The areas we cover and when we cover them will be based on the complaints made and our own records,” he added. “We’re taking phone calls immediately on this.”
The cart has been in use by officers since December 11.
