It was a blur of hands and tools as Oxford High School students worked fast and furiously Feb. 9 during the annual brake service competition held by the Auto Tech I class.
Two-student teams were timed as they disassembled and correctly reassembled drum brake units.
Their best time from two different vehicles became their team time and was used in their ranking. Students could be timed in as many heats as they like.
Errors in reassembly or slower times were scratched off, and only their best times from two vehicles were kept.
The first place winners were Shelby McIntosh and Riley McIntosh with a combined time of 3 minutes, 39 seconds.
Second place winners were Carly Eisenhardt and Tara Johnson with a combined time of 5 minutes, 8 seconds. They were the only all-female team.
Sean Hunter and Blake Hunter took third place with a combined time of 7 minutes, 17 seconds.
Sponsors who supported this year’s competition were Oxford Bank, Rotary Club of Oxford, Oxford McDonald’s, Steve’s Oxford Automotive and Wright Tool Company.
