From now on, the Oxford Village Planning Commission is dedicating one meeting per month to drafting an ordinance that seeks to regulate recreational marijuana businesses.
“I think this is a very delicate subject and that we need to have a designated meeting for this and get it ironed out,” said Commissioner Rose Bejma.
In a 6-0 vote, commissioners approved Bejma’s motion to devote its second regular meeting of the month to this topic and nothing else. The second meeting occurs at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday.
Commissioner Maureen Helmuth noted she wants this meeting to have no time limit on it.
“I’d like to see us keep going after 9 o’clock,” she said.
Although there’s nothing in the planning commission’s bylaws that requires meetings to end at a certain time, there seems to be an unwritten rule being enforced that prevents them from continuing past 9 p.m.
Helmuth would also like that second meeting to be an informal, roundtable-type discussion with food available.
“(Let’s) get some pizzas in there, so no one has to rush home to eat, and make some progress on this,” she said.
Discussion of the marijuana ordinance would still be permitted to occur during the commission’s first meeting of the month, but only if time and the amount of other business allows for it.
The first meeting happens at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday.
