Brandon Twp.- Court-ordered breathalyzer tests and accident reports are no longer free in the township.
As of Monday, Jan. 18, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Brandon Substation will charge $5 per court-ordered breathalyzer test and $5 for the first two pages of accident and incident reports. A $1 fee will be charged for each additional page.
The township board unanimously approved the fees during a December board meeting. The resulting proceeds will be directed to the police budget. OCSO Sgt. and Brandon Substation Commander Pete Burkett said the move recoups some costs for the township, and also puts the township in line with other local municipalities who charge for these services.
‘For years, we haven’t charged, while other municipalities do,? Burkett said. ‘The majority of police departments charge for breathalyzer tests. We sent people from other townships away before, now we will take them, since we are charging.?
Anyone wishing to take a breathalyzer test in the township can do so by paying first at the treasurer’s office, 395 Mill St. In exchange, they will obtain coupons that can be turned in to the Brandon substation. Accident and incident reports can be paid for and obtained directly from the substation during normal business hours? 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
