Students at Oxford Middle School were released early afternoon on Monday after a water main break.
‘The water pressure was getting low, due to the break and it was going into the parking lot so it was flooding the parking lot by the gym,? said Assistant Superintendent Nancy Latowski. ‘They decided to close school because they didn’t want to compromise the integrity and the safety of the parking lot. Plus, they would have most likely had to turn the water off in order to get it fixed.?
According to Deputy Superintedent Tim Throne a backhoe was on site around 1 p.m. and reached the source of the problem eight or nine feet down where a three-inch hole was patched by 6:30 p.m. Monday night.
‘The water is on full-pressure and it’s holding, which is great news,? Throne said. ‘Bruce Biebuyck, director of building and maintenance for Oxford Schools, Doug Taylor, Oxford Schools? maintenance worker, the Village of Oxford water department (Department of Public Works) and our contractor, Ron Bretz Excavating of Lapeer, did great work for us today.?
The students returned to school on Tuesday.
