OXFORD – The Oxford Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors authorized two sign grants to local businesses.
The sign grants were awarded to Victoria’s and State Farm Insurance and were approved at the amount not to exceed $1,500.
Victoria’s is an existing business in the downtown and had recently received approval for back lighting from the planning commission.
“We would love to help her if we can. This will be a full sign so $1,500 is just a small portion of the sign (cost),” said DDA Executive Director Kelly Westbrook.
Village charter requires businesses receive two quotes for projects such as these, and while Westbrook ensured that Victoria’s owner had received two quotes, one was missing from the agenda. So, while the grant award was approved, it was contingent on verification that there was a second quote.
State Farm Insurance, owned by Nick Horvath is a new business that had previously operated in downtown Lake Orion.
The grant for Horvath was approved but was contingent on submission of a sign application and approval from the planning commission.
