Several boys, girls bowlers earn individual honors
ROYAL OAK — The Oxford High School varsity bowling teams competed in the in the OAA League Tournament on Feb. 14, with the girls winning the tournament and capping off an undefeated season.
The boys team lost in the semifinals to Clarkston during the tournament at Astro Lanes in Royal Oak, the final event of the OAA varsity bowling season.

Both the girls and boys bowlers also received league and All-conference Team honors on Friday.
“The all-baker event ends the season and gives us a chance to award bowlers for their achievements throughout the season,” said Oxford head bowling coach JR Lafnear
The teams bowled a series of baker games to qualify and then went head-to-head until a champion is crowned with a best 2-out-of-3 baker matches.
The girls were seeded number one after qualifying rounds. They outclassed the field by nearly 400 pins in their 10 baker games. They then beat Farmington 179-153 and 204-123 in the first round after qualifying.
The much-improved Lake Orion bowlers were next in the bracket. The Wildcats kept rolling beating the Dragons 223-202 and 181-170. In the finals the Wildcats girls dominated the Troy Colts with games of 176-162 and 215-151 to bring home the title, Lafnear said.
Boys Bowling Team
The boys bowled 12 qualifying games and earned the number one seed. They then beat a tough West Bloomfield team to advance into the final four.
In the semifinals the Wildcats bowled against the Clarkston Wolves, who beat the Wildcats and went on to win the tournament.
League Honors and All-Conference Teams
“The Wildcats were well represented in the season-ending honors,” Lafnear said. “The league honors the top 5 games and top 5 series for the season.

For the boys, Eli Wright’s game of 289 and Jacob Kemenah’s game of 279 earned medals, as did Emaleigh von Knorring’s 225 game for the girls. Kemenah, with a 512 series and Wright with a 515 series, also earned honors for their 2-game series.
The Wildcats were well represented on the All-Conference Teams.
First team honors went to Emaleigh von Knorring for the girls and both Eli Wright and Dominic Hambly for the boys.
Second teams honors went to Elleanna Ford and Phebe Coffman for the girls, and Matt von Knorring on the boys side.
Third team OAA League honors were earned by Maya Vetch and Allanna Waltz for the Oxford varsity girls.
The girls also received their OAA Red Division Trophy capping off an undefeated season going 10-0 in match play this season.
