Oxford LAX pounds Farmington

Oxford’s varsity boys lacrosse team took a solid 15-4 win against Farmington April 13.

The Wildcats were led by Spencer Petoskey’s six goals and Garrett Stuk’s three tallies.

“We have to play better, faster, in the early part of the game,” said Greg Normand, Oxford’s head coach. “We always play hard, but now we have to play a lot smarter as the competition gets better with the season moving along.”

Normand said the team needs to learn about concentration.

“Listen, this is simple,” he said. “We have to learn quickly to bear down in the first period and bring our best the entire game. We can’t wait until the later stages of the first quarter to find our game.”

The Wildcats rang the bell 15 times and found scoring from Petoskey and Stuk and a double dose from Robert Rodriguez, who netted two goals.

The winners were helped with single tallies from Gavin Fritz, Collin Grzanka, Sam Urban and freshman Matt Pullman, who picked up his first goal as a Wildcat laxer that night.

The Wildcats gave up two goals on a man-down situation in the first half from first whistles, but gave up no more goals after making a couple of adjustments.

“Farmington scored easily on skip passes on their first-half man-up’s, but we made a switch to slow them down the rest of the game,” said Jeremy Maslowsky, Oxford’s defensive coordinator.

Oxford goalie Giovanni DeBlasi stopped 10 shots enroute to his fourth victory between the pipes.

The win moves Oxford’s overall record to 4-1 and 2-0 in the OAA.

On Thursday, April 20, Oxford competes against Avondale at Avondale High (2800 Waukegan St.). Game time is 4:30 p.m.
