Oxford’s Camp Invention for the curious of mind

Who says there’s nothing to do in the summer? Not over 100 students who participated in Oxford schools, Camp Invention.

According to Shannon Hay, 5th grade teacher at Oxford Elementary school and camp staffer, Camp Invention is, “Designed for hands-on engagement and open-ended exploration, Camp Invention encourages children’s natural curiosity and creativity.”

This year’s camp was held at Daniel Axford Elementary. “We had 104 campers, 10 high school leaders, 10 middle-school leaders-in-training, and seven teachers,” she said.

Campers designed pop-up businesses, built mini skate parks, investigated robots that they turned into animatronic stuffies, and worked as event planners to create an epic celebration.

“We love seeing how this camp gives kiddos the space and materials to explore and invent, and their creativity always leaves us in awe,” Hay said. “We couldn’t do it without all of those high school volunteers, most of whom were campers once themselves.” — Don Rush
