Yellow and blues lines typically divide parking lots into standard and handicap spaces.
But there’s a new color in the parking lot of Coldwell Banker Shooltz Realty in Oxford Village – pink.
Pink lines denote the new space specifically reserved for breast cancer survivors, which includes anyone who has ever been diagnosed with the disease, no matter where they are in their battle.
“This is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so we decided to honor cancer survivors,” explained Managing Broker Mary Matthews. “It’s right by the front door of our building. We wanted to make it a little easier for them and let them know that we care and we’re thinking of them.”
The special space prominently features a large, pink ribbon in the center with the word “SURVIVOR” written below it in big, pink, capital letters.
“It helps us stand united with the cause and let’s people know that our heart is with them,” Matthews said.
The idea for the space came from Kathleen Sanchez, associate broker, owner and partner in Coldwell Banker Shooltz Realty. She was running in Flint one day when she spotted survivor spaces in the lots of three different businesses.
“I think it’s a great show of support,” Sanchez said. “Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes and goes quickly . . . I thought this is one way of keeping it front and (center) year-round.”
“I think it looks wonderful,” she continued. “I think it makes a statement that we support that cause.”
Coldwell Banker Shooltz Realty is located at 110 S. Washington St. (M-24), directly across from Crawford St.
