OHS Seniors Rachel Allen, Brittany Brady and Coty Perreault are on their way to the Business Professionals of America state finals in March, based on presentations they gave in computerized accounting, interviewing skills and administrative support concepts.
Police Chief Mike Neymanowski credits visibility of police patrols and involved citizens for the Village’s decrease in crime for 2009. Compared to 2008, assaults dropped from 40 to 25 (37.5 percent); larceny violations declined from 61 to 35 (42.6 percent); and property damage decreased from 43 to 26 (39.5 percent).
An Oxford fire truck sustained an estimated $25,000 to $30,000 in damage after a 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup crashed into it at the intersection of Oakwood and Gardner roads around 11:30 am on Jan. 14. The 1996 fire engine was responding to a medical call when it was struck. Nobody was hurt.

Stacy DeMarco, one of the Best of the Class of 1992 at Oxford High School, died Sunday as the result of injuries from a Jan. 4 car crash.
Don Rush, assistant publisher for Sherman Publications, Inc., the parent company of The Oxford Leader, was elected president of the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce at Monday’s board meeting.
Junior David Wagner and Sophomore Andrea Roman will represent Oxford High School with the State Honors choir when they perform Friday at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It’s Roman’s second straight year earning state honors; Wagner is a first time state performer.

Two Oxford youths stood mute in District Court Monday on charges of breaking and entering Oxford Junior High School and Industrial Machine Products, Inc., at 32 Louck Oxford. One other, a juvenille, was also taken into custody.
Four petitions are being circulated to date for council seats in Oxford. Two are by incumbants, Robert McMeans and Robert Tripp. Accountant Lee Lamb has agreed to have his name on the ballot and so has Mrs. Gerald Rossman.
Tuesday night village manager Don Scripter was told by council to inform Oxford Township they didn’t wish to participate in ambulance service. They said that since village residents are also residents of the township they would be paying twice for the service.
