Brandon Twp.- Both the middle school and high school were on lock down Monday morning as police attempted to apprehend a known felon.
Oakland County deputies including K-9 units and air support responded to the area near Granger Road and M-15 after a homeowner reported the suspect, Michael Devins, 18, had just left on foot from a local residence.
‘This kid has been known to harrass some of the students,? said Sgt. Tim McIsaac, Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Brandon substation.
‘He lived in the woods near the school. We’d been trying to catch him for about a month. He was not considered dangerous or violent.?
Devins was seen on school property walking southeast from a wooded area north of the soccer field and jumped a school fence heading toward Ortonville, fleeing police. He was apprehended at the Forester Car Wash.
‘Devins was just causing petty crime in the area,? added McIsaac. The school employees assisted us and helped a great deal in his apprehension.?
In addition to violation of probation, Devins will face charges of breaking and entering, illegal entry, and disorderly conduct.
According to police reports, deputies received numerous complaints from the school district staff, students and parents of the suspect harassing school children at various sporting events. The report also includes the suspect trespassing on school property. Students reported the suspect harassing and threatening them including the sale of drugs. During the past few weeks deputies reported the suspect fleeing on foot to avoid apprehension.
Devins pled guilty on Tuesday on a bench warrant for violation of probation before Oakland County 6th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Edward Sosnick. He is lodged in the Oakland County Jail.
Devins had served 122 days in Oakland County jail and was serving 2 years probation after pleading guilty on March 31, 2004 to a felony larceny.
