Postal food drive big success for FISH

A total of 25,050 pounds of food was collected Saturday for the Oxford-Orion FISH pantry during the National Association of Letter Carriers 22nd annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
According to mail carrier Vicky Haist, the drive’s coordinator in Oxford, the Oxford Post Office collected 13,550 pounds of food, an increase over last year’s 12,129 pounds.
‘Our volunteers and carriers were quite busy all day,? she said. ‘Our small community showed how much they cared by their kind donations.?
The Lake Orion Post Office collected 11,500 pounds.
Haist credited the Oxford Leader’s front-page story about the drive last week with helping make it such a success. ‘I think it made a big difference in our totals,? she said.
