Ever wonder what it’s like to ride your bicycle in snow?
Clarkston’s own Flying Rhino Cycling Club invites you to find out, hosting its 21st annual Polar Rhino Ride at noon, Jan. 1, New Years Day. Sign up starts at 10:30 a.m. at Independence Elementary School, 6850 Hubbard Road.
Riders can choose between a family-friendly 7-mile route or take a 16 mile route down the dirt roads north of town.
‘It’s one of those rides that’s amazing of how many people show up for it even when the weather looks bad. People just have a blast, they get bundle up and go out and come back and everyone is always smiling,? said Louise Kasl of Kinetic Systems. ‘Even when the roads are muddy or something like that, people just have a good time doing it.?
Helmets are required and riders typically use mountain bikes with knobby tires or a cyclocross bike. More information and pre-registration forms are available online at www.flyingrhinocc.com or at Kinetic Systems Bicycle Shop, 60 S Main St., downtown Clarkston.
For more information, call the shop at 248-625-7000. A collectable ride t-shirt, designed by Marc DeCubber and printed by Graphmark Services of Clarkston, is available for $20.
‘We are also working with Lend a Helping Hand,? Kasl said. ‘One dollar of every entry is going to help Lend a Helping Hand.?
