Hosting a dual meet in their home pool, Oxford’s swimmers couldn’t clinch a win against Rochester, losing 105-81.
Throughout the meet, the girls swam hard, broke school diving records and made a state cut, according to Head Coach Jackie Rank.
In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford’s A Relay team took first with a time of 1:57.22. The swimmers in the relay were sophomore Grace Charnstrom, sophomore Jenna Fistler, freshman Cali Schnur and junior Ashlee Weltyk. During the 200 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay team took second with a time of 1:51.47. The team was made of Schnur, sophomore Nellie Charnstrom, senior Kiera Veltigian and sophomore Laura Mace.
Oxford also did well in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a second place finish with a time of 3:54.19. Oxford’s A Relay team was made up of Grace Charnstrom, Fistler, Weltyk and junior Kaleigh Rogers.
The Wildcats were able to scoop up some points in the individual events, as well.
During the 500 Freestyle, Fistler finished first with a season-best time of 5:36.64.
In the 200 Freestyle, Grace Charnstrom took second with a time of 2:09.09. During the 100 Freestyle, Weltyk also took second with a time of 55.29, and teammate Grace Charnstrom came in just behind her. In the 50 Freestyle, Schnur took home the win with a time of 26.40.
Fistler was able to grab first place in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:17.14. The win also qualified Fistler for the Oakland County Meet.
Schnur took home another first place finish for the Wildcats during the meet, winning the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:02.94. Weltyk also took home a second win later in the match with a time of 1:00.65 in the 100 Backstroke.
Senior diver Veltigian broke school and pool records for the third week in a row and walked away with the diving win and a score of 264.70.
This meet moved Oxford 2-2 overall. The swimmers will be in the pool again on Sept. 27 against OAA red division swimmers, Birmingham Groves.
