Run, swim and roll in money for Leukemia and Lymphony Society

Athletes are warming up as they get ready for the seventh annual Craig Greenfield Memorial Tri and Du held on August 1.
The event is held in memory of Craig Greenfield, who died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphona in 2000.
‘The purpose was to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Michigan in memory of Craig,? said Corey Greenfield, his sister and event organizer.
‘Craig was always athletic,? she adding, noting it promotes health and fitness.
The event begins at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1 at Deer Lake Beach and Depot Park.
The triathlon race includes an 800-meter swim in Deer Lake, 16-mile bike ride ending in Depot Park, and 4.5-mile run, also ending in the park. The duathlon includes a 1.9-mile run, 16-mile bike ride, and 4.4 mile run.
‘It keeps getting better every year,? said Corey. ‘For the most part, it’s always good. We have great sponsors. Local vendors have been wonderful. They always provide raffle items for the raffle at the end of the event. The town has always been helpful. It is very much appreciated.?
Cook’s Dairy Farm provides ice cream, which is free to everyone – not just the athletes.
Clyde’s Frame & Wheel, of Pontiac, has donated a 5? by 8? Big Tex Trailer with a ramp gate for a raffle. Tickets are available for $10 and can be purchased at the event or by contacting Corey.
‘The drawing is at the event, but the winner doesn’t have to be present,? said Corey.
The Craig Greenfield Memorial Tri and Du has raised more than $100,000 for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Michigan.
All festivities following the event are held in Depot Park, including post-race food from a variety of vendors and a raffle with prizes. Top three racers overall and top three in each age group will receive awards.
The cost is $80 before July 30 and $90 on the event day.
