Safe parenting series

Brandon Twp.- Every Monday in March, parents, parents-to-be and caregivers can learn how to keep children safe during a safe parenting series at the Brandon Township Library, 304 South St.
The series is sponsored by the library, as well as Brandon Groveland Youth Assistance and the Oakland County Health Division, which presents speakers for each of the topics.
‘These programs have very important, valuable information,? said Tonja Brice, librarian. ‘We are very excited and very glad to be able to do this and hope we get a good response from the community.?
Children ages 3 and up can attend storytime while their parents are attending each program in the series. All programs take place from 7-8 p.m. On March 3, ‘Safe sleeping,? is the topic, presented by Jane Kessler, a public health nurse, who will discuss the causes of sleep-related deaths and guidelines for prevention; March 10 is ‘Pregnancy: Preparing to have a baby,? presented by Renay Dillon, a public health nurse, discussing the physical, emotional and life changes that occur with an infant; March 17 is ‘Breastfeeding,? presented by certified lactation consultant Tammy Shaffer; March 24 is ‘Child passenger safety,? by Julie Smith, health educator 3 and certified passenger safety specialist, geared to answering questions about seat choices for infants, toddlers and 4- to 8-year-olds; and the series wraps up on March 31 with ‘Infant growth and development,? with speaker still to be determined.
‘Some things have changed with car seat safety and sleeping and obviously, there is always new information with children’s growth that people may not be aware of,? said Brice. ‘Even if you’ve already had a child, you may hear something new or learn about something you haven’t succeeded at in the past.?
