School district graded by residents

The Lake Orion school district is inviting all community members to participate in a short survey on Orion schools.
The survey, located on the district’s website and in schools, asks takers to identify the schools? strengths and weaknesses, the types of interaction they have with the school system and the overall grade they think the district deserves.
Superintendent Ken Gutman notes the importance of hearing opinions from the entire area, not just from families with school-aged children.
‘We would love to hear from all community members,? Gutman said.
The survey is a part of the district’s ongoing efforts to improve community schools.
‘I don’t think [the district] should rest until we meet the needs of every child,? said Gutman.
The district anticipates good feedback from the survey, but also hopes to hear some criticism.
‘We have to hear the bad if we want to grow,? Gutman said. ‘We always want to get better.?
The district expects to see the recent all day, every day kindergarten decision reflected in the survey results.
Gutman says the feedback the superintendent’s office has already received on the kindergarten decision was overwhelmingly positive.
‘The calls are about 8-2, in favor of it,? he said.
But most importantly, the district wants to see the truth reflected in the surveys.
Those interested in taking the survey can visit www.lakeorion.k12.mi.us or pick up a paper copy located in area schools. The survey takes about five minutes to complete.
