Goodrich- The village council unanimously approved the final site plan for two senior citizen facilities, paving the way for construction to begin next month.
‘I would say that this is the highest value commercial project in the Village of Goodrich in more than 10 years,? said Bill Delaney, the interim planning and zoning administrator for the village on the project, known as The Pines of Goodrich.
‘My estimate of the value of this project is over $2 million.?
The council has approved construction of two 12,000 square-foot buildings, one to be a senior citizen assisted living facility and the other to be a memory care facility serving Alzheimer’s patients. Each facility will have 20 beds. The buildings are planned for a 2.12 acre parcel of land just north of Oxford Bank on S. State Road.
‘I’m glad the senior facility is underway, it will benefit the village in a number of different ways,? said Council President Doug McAbee.
‘The value of the property will go up, but the most important thing is, there will be 12 jobs created and they have other facilities and try to hire local. We can certainly use that.?
The Pines Assisted Living Homes also have similar facilities in Burton, Lake Fenton, Lapeer and Swartz Creek. The first ‘Pines? assisted living home was opened in 2001. The Pines management team has an average of more than 23 years experience serving residents? needs.
Delaney said the village will benefit from an increase in taxes of about $5,325 per year, a one-time fee of $22,000 for the company to tap-in, and from the building permit fees. Reisdents will have the availability of assisted living facilities close to home.
‘Right now, the closest facility I am aware of is in Grand Blanc, so that provides an amenity not now being provided for residents in the general area,? he said.
The company hopes to begin construction Aug. 1 and complete the assisted living facility by March 1, and then begin work immediately after on the memory care facility, completing by the end of next year. He expects reservations to be taken by Sept. 1 for the private care facilities.
‘They will be very attractive buildings, a good architectural addition and positive visibility for the village,? Delaney said.
