When it comes to having a good time, all you really need is a good pair of dancing shoes and a partner with timeless dancing moves.
With that idea in mind, Clarkston-area seniors enjoyed an afternoon of dancing and music at Bay Court Park for an ‘Afternoon Dance? on Aug. 17.
‘We love to dance and we know some of the people playing here,? Lucille Bradley, dancer, said.
The event, hosted by the Independence Township Senior Center, was the idea of Margaret Bartos, center director, as a fun way to spend a summer afternoon with friends.
‘It’s one of my favorite types of senior events,? Bartos said. ‘I know a number of seniors go to dances several times a week. We thought we’d give it a try and keep it real casual.?
While the dance floor wasn’t packed to capacity, those in attendance enjoyed dancing to favorite songs courtesy of the Clarkston Melody Makers.
‘A lot of people come up and ask us to play things,? Stanley Fay, Melody Makers, said. ‘We’ll play just about everything.?
Bartos waited to schedule the event until the end of the summer so as not to conflict with the summer camps held at Bay Court. The facility also features hard floors inside its meeting room, making it easier for dancers to glide along. She is hoping this becomes a regular event.
‘We’ve got the dancers,? Bartos said.
Bradley also hoped the event would gain in popularity.
‘We hope this will take hold and become a regular thing,? Bradley said.
Whether it was swing, Latin or even a waltz or two, the afternoon’s dancers enjoyed all types of music out on the dance floor.
‘It just comes natural,? Bradley said of her dancing abilities with husband John.
