OXFORD — Seven Oxford High School seniors signed letters of intent on Thursday, Feb. 20 to compete at the collegiate level.
The student athletes represent five sports, baseball, bowling, football, golf and lacrosse and six conferences and associations, the Mid South conference, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic conference, Great Midwest Athletic conference, Wolverine Cruiser Athletic Conference, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Tennessee Community College Athletic Association.
Drew Cady will play football at Northwood University while Luke Johnson will play at Wayne State University.
Oxford varsity football defensive coordinator Trevor Potts said Cady and Johnson will be “greatly missed” in the program, and “epitomized the type of people that we want young men to be.”
He added Johnson has always been a warrior, and never quits or backs down. Potts also complimented Cady’s work ethic.
Representing Oxford’s boys golf program was Dominic Daversa, who will compete for Alma College.
Head boys golf coach, Tim Fox called Daversa one of the reasons he was interested in taking the coaching position.
“Alma is very, very lucky to have you,” he told Daversa.
Head boys lacrosse coach Noah Grove spoke about Brayden Hering, who will play at Madonna University, and Patrick Wozniak, who will play at Hope College.
“Coaching Brayden has been nothing short of amazing,” he said. “He’s been a tremendous player in his short time span with us.”
Grove added he has “no doubt” Wozniak will be successful in all he does at the next level.
David Hixon will be playing baseball at Chattanooga State Community College next school year, and has a great work ethic, according to Oxford’s baseball coach Cory Hincks. Hincks congratulated Hixon on his accomplishment.
Jacob Kemenah, became a better bowler each year with Oxford, according to Head Coach JR Lafnear, and will bowl for Lourdes University next school year.
“As a senior, he’s becoming a great leader, and he’s become very focused, and he’s become a very hard-working student of the game,” Lafnear said.
Lourdes University Head Bowling Coach Keith Nusbaum, who attended the signing, said Lourdes is lucky to have Kemenah.
“Each of you have left an impressive mark on Oxford’s legacy,” OHS principal Brad Bigelow said. “You wore Oxford’s colors with pride, fought through adversity and achieved excellence while maintaining academic standards that made Oxford special.”
Bigelow reminded the athletes they will always be part of Oxford’s family.
Sixteen total Wildcats have signed letters of intent this school year, according to OHS Athletic Director Tony DeMare.
