‘Sharin? o? the green? donor ups ante to $3,000 for OCEF

Finding a four-leafed clover is believed to be lucky.
The Ortonville Community Emergency Fund has found some good fortune as they prepare for the annual ‘Sharin? o? the green.?
For the fourth year in a row, an anonymous donor has challenged the community to participate in ‘Sharin? o? the green,? offering to match community donations to the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund food pantry. But this year, instead of matching donations up to $2,000, the donor has upped the ante to $3,000.
‘The anonymous donor is a very big supporter of the OCEF mission and because of the change that came into effect regarding cuts to welfare assistance, I think he or she wants more people out there to realize that there are even more people that need help,? said OCEF President Karyn Milligan-Thompson. ‘The donor likes the idea that all the money that comes to OCEF helps the people right here in our community.?
OCEF helped 266 families residing within the boundaries of the Brandon School District in 2011, including 893 individuals, by providing food and cash assistance for utilities and rent, for example.
Under ‘Sharin? o? the Green,? if a member of the community makes, for example, a $25 donation to OCEF, the anonymous donor will match it with another $25 donation of their own. The fundraiser received its name because of its proximity to St. Patrick’s Day. Donations eligible to be matched will be accepted through the end of March. The donor will match donations up to $3,000.
Cash donations for OCEF can be placed in jars marked with shamrocks at local businesses including Brandon Tire, Bueche’s Food World, The Citizen, Clarkston Brandon Community Credit Union, First Impressions, Ken’s Coney and Papa Bella’s. Checks made payable to OCEF may be sent to OCEF, P.O. Box 282, Ortonville, MI 48462. For details call St. Anne Catholic Church at 248-627-3965.
‘We would like to thank this donor for all the support and say thank you to all the community members who participate by making donations to help meet the match,? said Milligan-Thompson. ‘Happy St. Patrick’s Day.?
