Ortonville- Roger Duval’s Sharin? O? the Green is back by popular demand.
Duval, a benefactor who anonymously matched March donations to the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund for several years, died in 2013, but his legacy lives on.
‘Sharin? O? the Green is so popular and even though it coincides with Easter and our donor has died, people want it to continue,? said OCEF Treasurer Margaret Lee. ‘It has become a game for some people.?
Two area churches that did not wish to be named have agreed to match individual donations up to $1,500 to keep the fundraiser going. Money donated will go to food purchases for the pantry that assists low-income families within the Brandon School District.
‘I think it’s wonderful, because this is a difficult time of year,? said Lee, noting that donations to the pantry fall off after the holidays. ‘The match prompts people to look in their checkbooks and see if they can send money knowing that it will be doubled. It gives us a boost.?
Donors can find jars decorated with shamrocks and marked ‘Sharin? O? the Green? at businesses around town including The Citizen newspaper office, 12 South St.; Clarkston Brandon Community Credit Union, 4 South St.; Papa Bella’s Pizza, 425 Mill St., Ken’s Coney Island, 100 S. Ortonville Road, and Bueche’s Food World, 400 Ortonville Road.
Checks can also be made payable to OCEF, and mailed to PO Box 282, Ortonville MI 48462. Put ‘Sharin? O? the Green? in the memo line. Donations can also be made via Paypal account at www.oceffoodpantry.org. Donations will be matched through the end of March.
In addition, Bueche’s has a box for non-perishable food donations. Food items needed for the upcoming Easter distribution include canned fruit; canned green beans, corn, potatoes/yams and other vegetables; canned soup; macaroni and cheese; Jell-O/pudding; cake mix; bread/muffin mix; frosting; candy; and egg dye. Gift cards to Bueche’s for the purchase of meat and fresh produce are also appreciated.
