Clarkston is looking to save some money on a sidewalk project by linking it to current work in the area.
City Council gave Manager Carol Eberhardt the OK to sign a contract up to $20,000.
The project would extend the sidewalk on the west side of Main Street from Miller Road north to the city limits, where it would connect to an Independence Township sidewalk.
If the work is done by Michigan Department of Transportation contractors in conjunction with other sidewalk and road work in the area, the city estimates it would cost $10,000-$12,000.
If work is not included in the current project, the city engineer estimates the extension would cost over $18,000.
