Special education parapros given more time

Brandon Twp.- The school board has approved restoring 10 special education parapros to 5 3/4 hours per day in classrooms.
‘The parapro time was very much missed,? said Superintendent Lorrie McMahon.
The paraprofessionals, who work with special education students and assist them in general education classrooms, were moved back to four hours per day this school year because of concerns about funding. However, the support was missed, McMahon said, so the board has reinstated the lost time effective immediately, using funds from the general fund balance.
A total of $34,125 was taken from the general fund balance to make the move possible. The funding will be addressed year by year due to changing funds and needs.
