Statement about investigation offers few details

Oxford Schools released a statement to the district last week regarding an investigation being conducted by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the district statement, ‘a police investigation is in progress regarding the activities of an individual who may have had some involvement or contact with former (or current) student athletes.?
The statement highlighted that the individual is not an employee of the district or an approved volunteer. Any photographs or video information that has been reported to the district has been immediately turned over to the sheriff’s office.
‘The district is not performing an investigation at this time, but is in full support of police and their efforts,? the release stated.
The district is requesting that all further questions regarding the case should be directed to the sheriff’s office. The district is encouraging any students or individuals who may have information pertinent to the case to contact Sheriff’s Det. Shane Freiberg at the Oxford Township substation at (248) 969-3077.
Separate statements were also sent to the parents of students who may have been involved as well as former students over the age of 18 that may have been involved.
Superintendent Tim Throne understands these statements are very broad and don’t offer much detail, but it’s all the district could release at this time.
‘I apologize that there isn’t more detail that we can give at this point, but we are fully cooperating with the sheriff’s office in their investigation,? Throne said. ‘We will do our best to keep everyone updated as things progress forward and we can say more at a later time.”
Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Patterson, commander of the Oxford Township substation, said investigators received information from someone who came forward regarding possible criminal activity involving an individual who used to be connected with Oxford’s athletics program. Beyond that, Patterson said he could not comment any further because it’s an open investigation.
At this point, Freiberg said they’re just trying to get a hold of current and former students whose names came up during discussions
? A lot of the kids are (living) out of state,? he added. ‘So far, nothing has really come up through the investigation. We’re just waiting for people to call back.?
