In their last meet before finals, the Wildcat runners made a strong showing at their regional competition.
The boys were able to grab a top-10 spot, and the ladies made their presence known as well.
Again rounding out the top finishers of the boy’s 5,000 meter race, Oxford standouts senior John “JJ” Bagans and junior Scott Masterson claimed 10th and 11th place, respectively. Finishing at the same time, both boys ran a time of 16:11.6.
Other top runners were senior Hunter Green, who claimed 22nd place and ran a time of 16:23.6; senior Shane Moore, finishing 35th and running a time of 16:51.0; and junior Shane Ross, who claimed 46th and ran the race in 17:03.6.
Following their trend from most of the season, the Wildcat ladies didn’t fair as well as their male counterparts, but still had several runners who had admirable races. Leading the ladies again was freshman Alaine Cusick. She claimed 21st place with her time of 19:36.0. Not far behind Cusick was sophomore Lauren Schiller, who came in 26th and ran a time of 19:47.7.
Rounding out Oxford’s top five, junior Maddie Lukens claimed 33rd place with her time of 19:58.5, sophomore Ellie DiMalanta finished 39th and ran a time of 20:21.4 and senior Molly Long grabbed 44th place with her finishing time of 20:25.8.
The Wildcats will be back at it again at their final race of the season on Nov. 3, when they will compete at the MHSAA finals at the Michigan International Speedway.
